FISHING!!!
The Salmon River provides anglers an extraordinary fishing experience for trophy size Steelhead, Salmon and Brown Trout. Salmon
are caught all summer in Lake Ontario and then the first large runs of King and Coho Salmon into the Salmon River begins around
the end of August. These early fish are bright and solid weighing between 18 - 40 lbs. Salmon continue to inhabit the river
until the end of October. If you want to catch chrome fish, you should arrive in the first three weeks of September. Steelhead
begin showing up from the middle of October on, feeding on salmon eggs from the King Salmon. By late October Steelhead will
be spread throughout the entire river system. Quality Steelhead fishing continues throughout the cold winter months and into
March, April, & May. Steelhead average from 6 - 12 lbs and are caught primarily with egg sacs and a variety of flies using
both fly-fishing and float fishing (center pin set-ups) techniques and spin fishing with a "noodle" style fishing
rods. Along with the Steelhead, monster sized Brown Trout enter the Salmon River in the fall feasting on Salmon eggs. The
Browns actively feed all winter before returning to Lake Ontario in the Spring. Our Brown trout average 4-5 pounds but are
commonly caught in the 8-10 pound range. Spring throught early fall brings world class fishing in Lake Ontario and Oneida
Lake. We have Walleye fishing on Lake Ontario and Oneida Lake with fish commonly in the 10 - 14 pound range. Spring also means
huge numbers of Brown Trout feeding just off the shore as well as steelhead. Just as the Brown trout fishing slows a bit,
the Chinook and Coho Salmon invade our waters and keep us busy until they enter the tributaries again in the early fall. Summer
Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass fishing on Lake Ontario, Redfield Reservoir and Oneida Lake as well as summer dry-fly fishing
in the many back-woods streams for native trout are virtually untapped resources of excellent fishing. During the winter
we also provide ice fishing for Walleyes, Pike, and Perch. Guide services for the Salmon River, Lake Ontario, and other local
waters is provided through-out the year. For those outdoor enthusiasts that want to “do it on their own”, we will
provide up-to-the-moment information for the best possible fishing. Species fishing times are: Salmon: July (summer months
in Lake Ontario) - November; Steelhead: All year (summer months in Lake Ontario; Brown Trout: All year(April - July in Lake
Ontario with "monster" Browns in November);Walleye: May & June and Ice Fishing December - March. Native Brook
